Description: Find a place out of direct sunlight and drafts to set up your new newt tank.
Easy Newt Care - Step 2
Description: Rinse and wipe down the entire tank (inside and out) and all decorations with 2 percent bleach solution (NO soaps, detergents or other cleaning materials). Let stand overnight.
Easy Newt Care - Step 3
Description: Add two to four inches of dechlorinated water. Use HBH Bowl Prep or Tank Prep to rid the water of chlorine and protect the newts.
Easy Newt Care - Step 4
Description: Install your water filter. The one shown works well for newts. There are other options. Your water should be filtered. If your filter holds carbon and zeolite, that will keep the pollutants to a minimum.
Easy Newt Care - Step 5
Description: Make sure that if the water filter sits in side the water, it stays secure when it is turned on.
Easy Newt Care - Step 6
Description: Add rocks to hide the filter and help keep it secure.
Easy Betta Care - Step 7
Description: Add more rocks of different sizes to add variety. Make sure there is an area where the newt can crawl out of the water.
Easy Newt Care - Step 8
Description: Add plants and other decorations. If you add a light, do not make it bright. Newts do not like bright light.
Easy Newt Care - Step 9
Description: If you can, let your setup sit overnight to that the water becomes room temperature. You do not need a heater. The temperature should be between 50-75 F. Add you new pet newt.
Easy Newt Care - Step 10
Description: A prepared Newt food will give your pet more vitamens and minerals. Be cautious with live food until you've read up on it and have cared for your newt and are more familiar with its needs. The detailed instructions will tell you more.
Easy Newt Care - Step 11
Description: Change about 20-30% of the water volume weekly. Newts absorb many things through their skin. Use a turkey baster, an aquarium siphon, or a tube to siphon water. Don't get the water in your mouth. Wash your hands after changing the water or handling the newt.
